Recreational Power
Working on introducing fuel cell power systems in smaller devices, Horizon's team identified specific recreational applications that could benefit from new performance advantages enabled by Horizon's fuel cell products.

Lakes in Switzerland ban the use of thermal engines, creating an opportunity to replace cumbersome battery-based power systems for electric boats with more convenient fuel cell power systems. The solution works best for trolling applications, used mostly in recreational fishing and eco-tourism. Recreational fishing is the single biggest hobby in North America, with over 3 million lead-acid batteries sold into this application each year. Working with high-profile partners and with the support of the Swiss Federal Energy Office, Horizon's solutions have already been integrated and tested in real-life settings, on Swiss lakes, as early as 2006.
The same group is now studying renewable hydrogen systems to supply lakeside marinas.
